The shop is divided into several "rooms". Some with guitars, some with mandolins, etc. I found the banjo room and sat down and began playing the 3 tunes I have learned recently. As I was walking around, one of the owners (believe it was jeff Sullivan) offered to show me around their shop. I saw where they repair and make banjos. That's right. They MAKE their own line of banjos, named after their late father. I got to try a few out and they sound great! First quality know their way around a banjo. They make necks and tome rings for Gibson at the moment. A great place with very friendly and helpful people! try to visit if you can. They know how to help you. Overall Rating 10

The people there know what they are talking about and will help you in whatever way they can. My familys band will have the opportunity to go to Costa Rica next February and we needed flight cases. After telling them about this they ordered the cases quickly and we got custom color new cases in two months! and there stock cases normally woudnt get here till next february. Before all this we had a house fire and lost several instraments. With there help and kind words our band was easily put back together and going strong. They recently had Kenny and Amanda Smith at there store for a free workshop that helped many people get to the next level with there playing. If your ever in Lebanon MO give this store a visit. Fairhope is such a nice, laid back little town and Jubilee is just what you'd expect to find there. Wonderful staff. The owner, Eugene, cut me a killer deal on a new D-18. I don't know if they have any interest whatsoever in the mail order business but you'd do well to call them before you buy a guitar. Joe, the guitar tech, let me play all the Martins and Larrivees. No pressure. Other staffers, Susan and Matt, are as pleasant and helpful as can be. They do it right over there and they have a customer for life in me. Overall Rating 10

I ordered a banjo from New Zealand and Angie was very helpful, providing clear information about the costs involved and was very patient throughout. The order was placed quickly, and it arrived less than ten days later. After the instrument arrived, I had a question regarding set-up. But even though her house had been damaged by Hurricane Ike, she'd arranged for someone at the manufacturer to help me, so that I could be taken care of. THAT is good service. The first time was when I accidently snapped the peghead off of my Gold Star. The repairman finished the repair in half the time he said it would take and the banjo looked good as new. The second time was just for a standard set-up and I am more than pleased with the way the banjo sounded afterwards. The luthier (Kjell) even did some minor frett leveling at no cost to me. The great tradition Bill Sullivan started continues on without fail. I always look forward to a visit , which normally lasts a good half day once enter the front door. I feel like I live there as they allow me to roam anywhere and invite me to pick anything ( they have a Prototype 2 banjo which you need to play if you drop by) Everyone there is helpful .If you cant drop by and need anything ,phone orders are processed before your phone receiver is cold. John, Tom, Barry and Jim "Duck" and all the gang have made our introduction to Bluegrass a fun road to travel. We love to come to the Tuesday night Bluegrass pickin' when possible. We love the friendly, down-home feel of the store. Everyone has been so helpful to us. We travel over 60 miles to shop at BANJO.COM and it is well worth the drive (even with the high price of gas). Janet is very busy, but if you can get her on the phone and describe the sound you are looking for, she can match you with the banjo you are meant to have. Tom is an excellent set up person. I have read on different sites that JDMC might not answer an email. This can be true. I have asked them for assistance when product descriptions made comparisons difficult. Lord, knows, they just honestly did not have time to investigate and address all of the questions I had. I also like Janet very much as a person and have made clear not to bother answering emails when she does not have time. HOWEVER, whenever I have had a serious question or concern about a product I have purchased, Janet and her staff have always been very responsive, supportive and informative. Overall Rating 10

In the age of internet everything, Gryphon is thriving. It is well worth the drive from Oakland to Palo Alto to spend time in this gorgeous store and purchase a high-quality instrument I have played, rather than ordering one online, sight unseen. And I'd much rather give my money to Gryphon than the similar store in Berkeley. I''ve purchased a Flatiron mandolin and a Bart Reiter banjo from Gryphon, with almost ten years in between. I've never been happier with instrument purchases in my life. Makes me want to take back the Martin guitar I got at Guitar Center and buy one from Gryphon, instead. Forgive me Gryphon, for I have sinned. I couldn't afford the guitar from you, but the stain my cheating has left on my heart is only slightly lessened knowing that you are thriving.
